Gramática inglesa: Verbos sucedidos por infinitivos o gerundios

1. INTRODUCCIÓN

En inglés algunos verbos van sucedidos de gerundio, to + infinitivo o infinitivo en función del contexto, los propios verbos y algunas reglas gramaticales. Veamos un ejemplo de cada caso:

- Gerundio: I'm very good at remembering names.

- To + infinitivo: My flat is easy to find.

- Infinitivo: I can't do it.

¿Cuándo utilizar gerundio, to + infinitivo o infinitivo sin to?

 

2. REGLAS PARA UTILIZAR GERUNDIO, TO + INFINITIVO O INFINITIVO

2.1. Uso de gerundio (verbo + ing)

• Después de preposiciones o prhasal verbs: She has given up smoking.
• Cuando se utiliza como sujeto de la frase: Eating out is quite cheep here.
• Después de algunos verbos como: hate, enjoy, mind, love, etc.

 

2.2. Uso de to + infinitivo

• Después de adjetivos: My flat is easy to find.
• Cuando se expresa una razón o propósito: He's saving money to buy a car.
• Después de algunos verbos como: agree, need, help, remember, etc.

 

2.3. Uso de infinitivo sin to

• Después de verbos modales o auxiliares: We must do it.
• Después de los verbos make y let: She always makes me laught.
